This TC is planned to be hosted in Portugal
You are welcome to read all provided info about the project and If you are interested to become a partner, please fill in the attached.
Contextualization of the project
For almost 20 years immigration and integration of minority groups have been two of the most warmly debated issues in Europe. However, these debates are often adopted and approached without taking in account the experiences, expectations and needs of those groups and their descendants. In general, this one-sided attitude is one of the reasons why the policy approach also face difficulties for a successful overcome of discrimination, racism, intolerance, stereotypes which are basic for a social integration strategy.
In the European Year of Citizens, dedicated to the rights that come with the EU citizenship, is a key point to involve young migrants ( also 2nd generation), minority groups in Europe and youth workers active in this field, to debate which “advances in citizenship in terms of people having rights and the extension of rights” have been done and are needed and to foster social cohesion in European Union, respect for cultural diversity and inclusion of young people with fewer opportunities, namely facing social and economic obstacles such as discrimination based on ethnicity, religion, low standard of living, low incomes, unemployment, etc . Young migrants from 2nd generation and minority groups are often excluded from their participation at local, national and European level referring not only to the policies on migrants and their descendants, but also, consequently, from youth policies. The political dimension of their participation is fully connected with their inclusion.
Youth organisations working with young migrants should be able to provide them with competences that will facilitate their social integration but also enhance their participation in policies respecting to migration and youth participation, from capacity-building to definite empowerment.
